Our meal began with the wild mushroom crostini, a dish that immediately showcased the culinary creativity of The Cellar. First and foremost, the mushrooms were cooked to perfection, offering a savoury depth of flavour that paired beautifully with the toasted crostini. Additionally, the dish was elegantly presented and perfectly portioned for sharing, making it an excellent start to the evening.
Next, we tried the calamari, a dish with potential that fell slightly short. Although the calamari was fresh and the breading well-seasoned, the pieces were not properly cut before frying, which required us to cut them ourselves. Unfortunately, this caused the breading to fall off, detracting from the overall experience. Nevertheless, it’s a minor issue that could easily be improved to elevate this appetizer.
