Barceló Bávaro Beach Resort Adults Only

The Barceló Bávaro Beach Adults Only resort in Punta Cana promises a blend of luxury and relaxation for those seeking an escape from the everyday. Nestled on pristine beaches with crystal-clear waters, this resort offers an adults-only atmosphere, perfect for romantic getaways or tranquil vacations. However, as with any travel experience, there are highs and lows worth considering to make the most of your stay.

Arrival Experience

Upon arriving at the Barceló Bávaro Beach Adults Only Grand Resort, I was mistakenly dropped off at the family side of the Barceló Bávaro Palace. Unfortunately, this mix-up by the cab driver caused some inconvenience. Thinking I was in the correct area, I approached the concierge, but the directions given were unclear. Later, I discovered a shorter route through the main lobby that could have saved me time and effort. Despite this hiccup, the concierge at the Adults Only side upgraded us to the Premium level, which significantly improved our experience.

Accommodation

The Premium level room provided spacious and luxurious accommodations that enhanced our stay. Not only was the bed incredibly comfortable, but the balcony also offered stunning ocean views, making it a perfect spot to unwind after a day of activities. However, some aspects of the room did fall short. For instance, the furniture appeared dated and showed signs of wear, which detracted slightly from the overall impression of luxury. Meanwhile, the resort itself compensated with its breathtaking surroundings, featuring pristine beaches and crystal-clear pools that truly embodied the essence of a tropical paradise.

Staff and Service

The professionalism of the male staff stood out as exceptional and deserves recognition. They were not only polite and respectful but also consistently attentive, ensuring every guest felt valued and well taken care of. As a result, their outstanding customer service significantly elevated the overall experience. However, by contrast, the service from the female staff members was less consistent, which occasionally detracted from the otherwise positive interactions.

Chez Gourmet Dining

Dining Experience - All-Inclusive Convenience

The all-inclusive package was a convenient feature, offering unlimited food and drinks throughout the stay. The resort boasts several à la carte restaurants, each with unique offerings. However, the quality of food was inconsistent. Some dishes were overly salty or lacked depth of flavour, and portion sizes were smaller than expected. Additionally, reservations for these restaurants required booking days in advance, often leaving only late evening slots available, which was inconvenient for some guests.

Kyoto Restaurant

Dining at the Kyoto restaurant, which incurs an additional $15 USD per person, was a letdown. The sushi lacked freshness, and the presentation was underwhelming. Furthermore, the menu was disorganized, making it difficult to navigate. Desserts, resembling buffet options, were overly simplistic and did not justify the additional cost. Ultimately, this dining experience fell short of expectations, and I would not recommend the Kyoto restaurant to other guests.

Buffets

The buffet’s international offerings were limited in variety and inconsistent in quality. While labelled as international, the dishes lacked authenticity and creativity, falling short for a resort of this caliber. Additionally, late dinner slots were often the only available times, even when reservations were made well in advance, which added to the overall dining challenges.

Barceló Bávaro Beach Chess Game

Being a queen in chess is to be in control of your own destiny, to outmaneuver your opponents, and to always strive for victory.

The resort offers a wide range of activities, ensuring that guests always have something enjoyable to do. For instance, yoga sessions provide a calming start to the day, while beach volleyball invites friendly competition under the sun. Additionally, billiards tables, giant chess sets, and ping-pong tables are available 24/7 near the main lobby. These facilities are well-maintained, offering a convenient and fun way to unwind at any time. Moreover, the nightly live music and entertainment shows infuse energy into the evenings, creating a lively and engaging atmosphere that guests of all ages can appreciate. These activities not only cater to diverse interests but also ensure that every moment at the resort is filled with enjoyment and relaxation.

Amenities

The resort’s amenities include swimming pools, a gym, a casino, and a spa, offering various ways to unwind. However, the spa experience left much to be desired. The facilities were poorly maintained, with cleanliness issues in the sauna and steam room, such as tissue paper and hair in the drains. Additionally, no slippers were provided for entering these areas, reducing the overall comfort. The massage service was rushed and lacked skill, failing to deliver the rejuvenation expected for the high cost. For these reasons, I cannot recommend the spa.

Pros

  • All-Inclusive resorts are cost effective
  • Beautiful surroundings and beach view
  • Food and drinks (including alcohol) are included
  • Professionalism of staff
  • Great for families and groups

Cons

  • Poorly maintained facilities
  • Average food quality
  • Disappointing spa experience
  • Presence of noseeums
  • Inconsistency with the concierge/guest services
  • Not easy to authentically experience much local culture

Challenges

One unexpected downside was the lack of lush greenery and birds at the resort. While the palm trees added a tropical touch, the absence of flowers and other flora diminished the environment’s vibrancy. Additionally, noseeums, tiny biting flies, were a constant annoyance. These insects can pass through clothing and are resistant to repellents, making outdoor activities less enjoyable.

Final Thoughts

While the Barceló Bávaro Beach Adults Only resort has its strengths, including its beautiful setting and attentive staff, it falls short in several key areas, such as food quality, spa services, and maintenance. Guests seeking a luxurious and stress-free experience may want to explore other options in Punta Cana.
